About 95% of the food I've had so far has been form restaurants (the other 5 has been homemade pasta, granola bars, pb, and mango). A lot of restaurants advertise themselves as veg on their signs, and even as an omnivore it would be easy to be all veg all the time with no effort at all. I was assuming I would see a lot of tofu but I haven't seen any. Protein is lentils and some paneer. I'm not crazy about paneer unless it's fried. When we eat at an Indian place, the plates are brought out and each person is served from each plate. At whatever point you are on your last bite of something, a waiter will rush over and offer to serve you from the plate and wait there while your mouth is full and = can you tell that I hate this. Also if you try to serve yourself form a plate he will rush over and serve you before his boss yells at him to do so. I hate it because I feel like I'm not eating with the person I'm at dinner with, since there are at least 8 hands fluttering over the table at any moment. I'd like to have 5 minutes alone to stuff my face, please. But I am a guest and I need to get used to it or keep my mouth shut. When we eat at Western restaurants we can get our own entrees (hooray for my own entree!), at places like TGIFridays. There are a decent amount of places I've been told are new that are sort of catering to young professionals (especially ones who have visited the west) and I would describe it as better quality bar food. The bowling alley I went to earlier in the week was a family fun center that served appetizer/bar food in a mix of Indian and Western styles (ok, and sushi). Yesterday I ate at a place called Kooky Konkers (please note that one of my pet peeves is excessive use of the letter 'k' in 'cute' store names) which had a hooka lounge, an Indian buffet, and mostly western bar food. We had a baked potato and onion rings. Both were AMAZING but by the end of the snax we each had multiple plates in front of us as well as lots of cutlery. Also, the onion rings were placed on my plate for me, my chair pulled out and pushed in for me, and my napkin presented to me. I just can't get used to it. Very often a waiter will ask you to fill out a service questionaire and stand right there waiting for you to do so. Yesterday I was presented with a Guest Book to fill out at the onion ring place. It's not meant to be annoying, but rather good service, but good Lord, do I want to scream 'get the fuck out of my face, I will let you know when I want something'. A couple times we've gotten takeout from the apt complex restaurant because it's just more relaxing. I ask for 'regular water' which is filtered tap water as opposed to bottled water partly because I'm wicked creeped out by someone presenting the liter of water to me like a bottle of wine before he opens it for me. In America we're so used to a part of good service to o include = don't bother me if I have my mouth full or I'm in conversation. I am in a BAD mood today. Oh, goody, were going out for pizza with the office crowd tonight so i'd better behave!
Photos 1) and 2) autos. 3) a very nice buffett restaurant in the Hyderabad International Convention Center. I had a whole plate of churros. 4) and 5) restaurants are prepared for how often the power goes out. TGIFridays had full power backup, and the onion ring place had individual lamps passed around to the tables.
