For my vacation knitting I brought Wendy D. Johnson's Toe-Up Socks For Everybody and 2 colors of sox yarn (don't remember the brands - I make sure to rip off the wrapping as soon as I buy yarn in case I ever want to buy more). I am working on Barbara Walker's Learn To Knit Afghan at home but that's not practical to carry around, so I went for something that takes up very little space in my luggage and that I will learn from. I have never made sox before ( I have done better booties tho), and this book seemed to have a great assortment of patterns that would be doable once I GET the idea of knitting sox. I didn't want to buy a book that I would get bored with after I learned the basics, and I'm glad to say I made a great choice and I will look at more books by this author. 1) the purple sox is some sort of flower motif and I love the yarn but I have to sit with a chart to work on it 2) this is my very first sox which came out WAY too long in the foot, but the cable was good and I learned the turning, gusst, etc, and eventually took it apart 3)Showdown At The House Of Blue Leaves = but with geckos in the kitchen . This weekend was gecko-rific. 4) The sox I am currently working on , based on http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer08/PATTziggy.html a great pattern to make a very interesting sox with not too much extra effort. I don't have an extra color yarn (not including purple) so I am using a ripple stitch. I love this because I can do this without referring to a chart. 5) the original sox yarn sox with all the yarn were not long enough to be knee sox so I took them apart
