Sports Bar
So we've found this sports bar that has pretty decent sushi so we go there about twice a week now. It's on the 4th floor of a food court type building at a busy intersection where lots of buses come through. There is a coffee bar and a Subway on the first floor, and yes, you have to go through security to get into the food court. We usually sit at a tall table right under one of the small tv screens so we can watch World cup. Cricket takes priority (especially yesterday when it was India vs Pakistan) so that is usually on the big screen. There is a bar that no one really sits at and about 6 long couches and a ton of bean bag chairs in the middle of the room. There is a 5 lane bowling alley which is always full and has a long waiting list at any given time. People bowl in every type of clothing I've seen here. Lots of teens in jeans and t-shirts but also full saris as well as the more common kurta (long loose shirt, plain on men and sequined with a matching scarf for women) and pants. Oh, and let's not forget the Sikh guy in a Led Zeppelin t-shirt. Lots of people play barefoot since most people here wear sandals with no sox. The people who use bowling shoes are mostly office guys who wear dress shoes with sox. Tons of families come in with little kids and a grandparent. All of the employees are men ( as in most restaurants I've been to, sometimes there is a pretty hostess but never a waitress) and one looks like the bad guy from No Country For Old Men. The women's room is icky because there are no female employees to clean it so I wait until we get home. I think everybody shares tips so it doesn't matter if we move around. They know we hate cricket so whenever a seat opened up near a small tv we were moved there so we could watch World Cup. Watching the bowling is almost as fun as watching World Cup. Most people I've seen are very good, but there are 'bored girlfriends' who don't try very hard and look just like the bored girlfriends in America! We started going here to see if we could get American bar food, and we stayed for the sushi. There is the tiniest, gayest, swishiest Indian sushi chef you ever did see there. He always tells us when he has avocado for California roll, and last night he gave us a pretty sampler plate for free. The sushi menu isn't very big, but he will vary stuff for us because he knows we go there for the sushi. Aside form sushi they have fried things, a meat sampler platter, a non-meat sampler platter, pretty decent wings and Indian bar food which I don't understand yet.
